Tasha T/Rasta T To Record “Child Of Jah” Single For Capsicum

As soon as I opened the .MP3 file of Tasha T/Rasta T’s “Bed Of Fire” – which ultimately hit #1 on the Canadian reggae charts -- I knew I wanted to play it on The Capsicum Show for my listeners, and I knew I wanted that gritty persuasive voice to record a single for Capsicum Records,” says Roger Meltzer, label CEO and Director of A&R and emcee and producer of the radio show that bears the name of the Hartford, CT-based indie.

“I put the song into my rotation immediately, and then, at the invitation of concert promoter Denis Reid, I went to see her perform in Waterbury on Labor Day and Tasha showed me she was an entertainer as well as a recording artist.

“When she came off the stage, I asked her if I could send her a culture song to consider voicing for Capsicum, one I penned with my co-producer Joseph “Reality” Weekes that I’d been sitting on for three years waiting to find the right voice for it and I knew right there hers was that voice. I sent her “Child of Jah,” a step reggae groove about the ultimate blasphemy of people murdering others in the name of religion and reinforcing my belief that we are all Jah-Jah’s children and hence all murder is fratricide. Within a week, she had listened to the demo I sent her and, to my delight, she said yes.”

After releasing several popular singles from her long-awaited sophomore album "Real Talk," distributed byVP Records, the petite Reggae songstress with a big voice and distinctive vocal style Natasha Whyte is showing why she has been on a music award winning fast-track. Born to Jamaican parents in Canada and residing in Toronto, most recently she was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal by the Governor of Canada. Closely following came the Trail Blazer Awardfrom the organizers of Jamaica Day, adding to an already well stacked reggae music awards cabinet. In a genre where women are seldom singled out for recognition, what makes Tasha T so special is that as a solo artist, Tasha T has a lot of skills she can depend on. She writes, records, and produces her songs and she’s the Musical Ambassador for Read Across Jamaica Foundation.

”Tasha T is a tribute to female fortitude and drive as she shares her optimistic vision of life and all the possibilities for a better future. Her album gets right down to the heart of the matter with hooky music supported by engaging lyrical content that makes you sit up and say 'yeah, that's right',” says Meltzer. “Her songs contain strong messages from a range of relevant and universal topics -- from inner city problems to friendship and love relationships -- all from a woman’s unique perspective.

The album jacket lists impressive collaborations with some of the most respected names in reggae production including Mikie Bennett, Bobby Digital, Sheldon Stewart aka Cali Bud, Computer Paul Henson and Danny Maestro.

“Keeping it real is what I'm all about,” Tasha T explains, and that commitment is evident in her engaging performance style that focuses on educating, motivating, uplifting and inspiring people from all walks of life. With excellent reviews mounting, the single release from the “Real Talk” album, "Bed Of Fire" has also been on the rise in the USA where she enjoys a loyal and growing following and has generated a positive response in Italy, too.

Tasha T was also invited to grace the stages of several noteworthy festivals and at a multitude of local area shows throughout the continental U.S. including “Groovin’ in the Park” and “Reggae Culture Salute” in New York (an event where Queen of Reggae Marcia Griffiths unexpectedly called Tasha T out to join her on stage). Tasha T also performed at the prestigious “Festival of Life” in Chicago, “People’s Festival” in Delaware, “Jerk Fest” in Philadelphia and “Jamaica Day” in Toronto.
